I’m rebuilding Goodtextures with a mix of the original photo-based textures and a new library of PBR surfaces created in tools like Substance 3D Painter and, later, Substance Designer. The goal is to keep the spirit of the old site, but make it more useful for modern engines and workflows.
The “notify” button just opens your mail client with a pre-filled subject line – no newsletter system or sign-up form here.
I registered the Goodtextures domain back in 2007 and launched the first public version of the site in 2010. Over the years it grew into a large collection of free photo textures used by environment artists, students and hobbyists all over the world.
Version 5.0 will build on that history. I’ll be re-using and cleaning up a selection of the original photo textures, then expanding the library with new PBR materials and trim sheets created in modern tools. The focus is on practical, game-ready surfaces rather than huge generic archives.
For now, this landing page is simply a marker in the ground: Goodtextures is still alive, the textures are not forgotten, and a new version is being assembled behind the scenes.
